Webinar Description
Over the past 12 months, many exhibition organizers were pushed into the situation of bringing together their communities by producing a fully virtual/digital event. We know the data that virtual/digital events produce is vast and yet, it’s not always clear how to handle this data and integrate it into other analyses (e.g., post event surveys).
This webinar provides a chance to look under the hood of the data that virtual/digital events generate. You will hear from data scientists who worked with IAEE to develop insights from a three-month project, analyzing participation data from IAEE’s 2020 virtual/digital edition of Expo! Expo!. These insights will provide perspective on the data to track and why it is important when running and evaluating outcomes of virtual/digital events. The presenters will also provide their perspectives on how these insights can be used to think about hybrid event models.

CEIR releases the results of its latest tracker survey monitoring the impact of COVID-19 on the US B2B exhibition industry. Results assess the extent of impact on staffing and the 2021 event schedule including the rate of postponements, cancellations and events that remain on schedule.
As importantly, CEIR’s assessment of the state of the industry is revisited and the four-scenario outlook for recovery is discussed, taking into consideration the transition to a Biden administration, as well as the status of distribution of vaccines and the rate of new COVID-19 cases.
What does this portend for 2021? Are we likely to reach the light at the end of the tunnel sooner or are we on track with earlier CEIR forecasts or is recovery likely to be pushed out to a later time?
All this, as well as questions, are addressed in this session.
Moderated by CEIR’s CEO Cathy Breden, CMP, CAE, CEM, she is joined by CEIR’s VP of Research, Nancy Drapeau, PRC and CEIR’s Economist, Allen Shaw, PhD., Founder, President & Chief Economist, Global Economic Consulting Associates Inc.

Four months into the COVID-19 Pandemic, the US and global economies are in a recession. Because of lock-downs and travel bans, the B2B exhibitions industry shut down in mid-March. The US economic impact through May 2020, from exhibitions not being held, was estimated at $1.8 billion.
This webinar provided an economic update, key indicators to follow and possible scenarios for recovery of the economy and B2B exhibitions industry.
Cathy Breden, CMP, CAE, CEM, CEO – Center for Exhibition Industry Research moderated this important, relevant and timely discussion and presentation with Allen Shaw, PhD., President & Chief Economist of Global Economic Consulting Associates.
