What’s Ahead for the U.S. Economy

Speaker: Shawn DuBravac, Ph.D., CFA | Futurist, Professor, Economist and Trendcaster

Looking ahead, will the U.S. economy perform better than expected? Inflation and related problems, such as tangled supply chains, may continue to challenge business leaders.  The employment rate is back to full employment levels, but why are their labor shortages? Corporate profits are supporting business investments focused on information products since the pandemic drove the adoption of technology. Will the price of oil remain high?  This economic overview will provide an expert perspective – outlining macroeconomic trends, predictions and likely recovery scenarios that includes sector-specific side effects.

1:45 PM – 2:00 PM

Focus on the CEIR INDEX

Speaker: Vincent Polito, Principal, VPI and Managing Director, mdg, A Freeman Company

CEIR Predict sits firmly at the intersection of business and events.  At the core of Predict is the CEIR Index. The Index is the engine that makes it possible to tie global trends to industry-specific insights and predictions. This 15-minute session will include what we believe is most critical to your business decision-making and forecasting.  This session will form the foundation of our discussion over the next 1.5 days as we explore our 14 industry sectors.

P.S. As a reminder, the CEIR Index focuses on four component values that measure the health of your shows and, collectively, our industry – NSF, exhibitors, attendance, revenue. Global Economic Consulting Associates, Inc. (GECA) provided the data analysis for the Index.

Focus on GEOPOLITICAL ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE

Speaker: Dane Chamorro | Partner at Control Risks, Head of Global Risk Analysis and Business Intelligence, Americas

As the pandemic waned, geopolitical tensions have increased. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is not likely to derail a U.S. recovery, but will it push up inflation in the short run? Should we worry about Taiwan, Iran and Ukraine starting wars?  The price of oil could remain higher than otherwise and Europe’s heavy dependence on Russia for natural gas suggest a slowing economy. And China? Will they continue its ‘zero-Covid’ strategy, with quarantine-free travel to the country unlikely. Supply is still slower to respond. Digital disruption, climate change, political violence, and other forces of disruption have introduced unprecedented levels of volatility for businesses to navigate.

Focus on DIGITAL
Brought to You by

Speaker: Tricia Wang, Ph.D. | Co-founder of Sudden Compass and CRADL

It’s been the focus for most organizations for the past couple of years: the impending digital transformation. Every company is figuring out how to successfully leverage technology in its operations. Organization leaders need to look at why they want to transform their business. They need to be able to link what they’re doing to an experience improvement. Will this change the experience for our workforce? Will it change the experience of how we interact with our customers or sell products? It’s crucial to anchor all that you’re doing to experience and get away from defaulting to technology as something “we use” to something “that enables” — forget about using technology just for the sake of using.

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM

Focus on ENGAGEMENT

Speaker:  Joey Graziano, J.D. | SVP, Business Operations and Global Events, National Basketball Association

How do you intentionally engage an audience to interact with them and turn them from passive spectators to active participants? How do you strategically and creatively use content to engage customers and invite them to interact with your brand? How do you shift customers to interactive collaborators instead of just recipients of numerous generalized marketing messages? Hear ideas on how the NBA is transforming their audiences to better experience their brand.

Disruptions to our industries and businesses won’t go away, nor should we want them to – because they create opportunities and innovation.

Post pandemic, we see a very different events industry. The pandemic questioned our fundamental beliefs – until people everywhere realized what we already knew – there is nothing like a person-to-person connection. We breathed a collective half-sigh of relief and asked:

  • So what now? Where does our industry go from here?
  • How can we capitalize on the opportunities created by the unimaginable rate of disruption and innovation we experienced over the last 15 months?
  • What else might be lurking around the corner ready to challenge us as leaders?
