Session Description

There is a great need for exhibitor education within small- to medium-sized exhibiting companies. Many show organizers will contract with an industry professional who specializes in exhibitor training, while some organizers may have in-house training sessions to educate their staff. However, many organizers may not explain the basic steps to successful exhibiting to their employees and therefore let lapse an important opportunity to provide added value to exhibitors.

Exhibitions offer great opportunities for exhibitors to accelerate the sales process and enhance their brand. The ROI Train the Trainers program will provide trainers with current research that substantiates this claim and will also provide training for exhibitors on how to:

  • Calculate potential audience size to quantify the value of exhibiting and determine if exhibiting in the show is justified.

  • Calculate level of investment required to reach potential audience on a cost-effective basis (in terms of number of staff and exhibit space required).

  • Measure reach and staff performance to identify strengths and weaknesses of the exhibit.

  • Measure potential ROI from leads generated at the show.

Background Information

Funded by a grant from the PCMA Foundation and developed by Exhibit Surveys in conjunction with the IAEE ROI Task Force, the ROI Tool Kit was launched in December 2007. The tool kit and calculators are geared toward the small- to medium-sized exhibiting companies.

Although the tool kit has a series of simple tools to assist exhibitors in planning for an exhibition and to measure performance in delivering a return-on-investment (ROI) from exhibiting, most exhibitors will need help in understanding how to use the tool kit and the benefits of its use, and will also need training on pre-show and post-show promotion.

The tool kit will offer exhibitors a paradigm in answering the question of whether or not to exhibit.
